VVSD VideosA big thank you to San Diego State University Music Department's Heartpower Performances and the Dan Reagan Latin Jazz Quartet who performed at Veterans Village of San Diego. They played for over two hours and we want more! They are fantastic! Great time. Thank you.
Guitars 4 Vets programs partners with VVSD. G4V provides VVSD residents six free guitar lessons and then gives them a
guitar to keep and hopefully use as a powerful way to express themselves. VVSD's president/CEO Phil Landis gives tour of our Veterans Rehabilitation Center San Diego Downtown Lion's Club sponsored the U.S. Naval Optometry tent during the Veterans Village of San Diego's 2010 Stand Down. Over 600 eyeglasses were provided free to homeless veterans. From the hopelessness on day one to the end of day three, Stand Down provides a transition of hope for our homeless veterans. On July 7, 2009 Homer was a homeless and alcoholic veteran. Exactly one year later, on July 7, 2010, he graduated from VVSD's Veterans Rehabilitation Center. He now has a job, housing and is Clean and Sober! James, Domenic and Carlos are veterans who are currently VVSD residents. Sonya graduated and is back home working the program and taking it "one day at a time." Each has their own story of lost hope, loneliness and pain. They volunteered to take part in this fundraising effort. We thank them for their service to our country. VA Secretary Shinseki discusses Homeless Veterans saying what VVSD has been saying since 1981. He states it clearly. Please take the time to watch and understand what VVSD does every day. We are in close partnership with the VA and the plan to end homelessness amongst veterans. Students from Lemon Grove School District give "Peaceable Packages" to help warm homeless veterans inside and out at the VVSD Veterans Winter Shelter in San Diego. Over 100 residents of Veterans Village of San Diego marched in the 2009 San Diego Veterans Day Parade. They proudly walked the same streets on which they used to live. They were applauded not scorned. It was a great day! |
